Car Show Reflections Medium
I saw this today at "Picnic By the Bay", a car show for American cars only, made no later than 1972. The show was held in Embarcadero Park in San Diego. So many of the cars had been lovingly restored, many of them with paint jobs that were just astonishing.

Other assorted car photos can be seen in my Cars set. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157624072368674/

Prescott Bike Festival

The first annual Prescott Bike Festival was a success beyond expectations. The one-day event attracted in excess of 5,500 visitors, 100 exhibitors and some unforgettable opportunities to celebrate all things two and three-wheeled. More importantly, it raised over £52,000 for charity.

The Prescott Bike Festival was born out of the need to raise awareness and fundraise for the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes and one of its member groups, Severn Freewheelers. For 15 April 2012, the Prescott Bike Festival will be bigger, better and hopefully generate even more money for this worthy cause than before.

Set at one of the most prestigious hill climb venues in the UK against the beautiful backdrop of the Cotswold Valley, the Prescott Bike Festival aims to provide something for everyone; a relaxed family atmosphere, a huge variety of entertainment and a rare opportunity to ÔRun the HillÕ on your own motorcycle.

Well supported by the bike industry, highlights of the 2011 event included the UK debut of the Morgan Three Wheeler, classic machinery from the Brooklands Museum, helicopter rides, live bands, the Stunt Starz stunt riding team and the chance to meet the stars of the British Superbike Championship. Not to mention riders aged from 8 to 81 taking to the hill.

In 2012, the Festival will feature the addition of a new Race Bikes ThruÕ the Ages display area. Never before has such an extensive collection of bikes been brought together. Here, festival goers will not only be able to get up close with rare exotica, early pioneering machinery, modern MotoGP bikes and more but see many of them in action, ridden by race riders. Of particular note is support from the Lansdowne Classic Series, who will be displaying some of the most prestigious race bikes of the 50s and 60s. The 2012 Festival also promises a kids demo area, a new Orchard Food & Bar Village, a Run the Hill Fancy Dress competition and so much more.

One of the most amusing new features for the Prescott Bike Festival 2012 was inspired by the unexpected entry of super hero, Superman, into last yearsÕ Run the

Hill. This year, entrants can choose to tackle the hill climb in fancy dress, raise money for the Blood Bike charities and win a fantastic prize for the best costume of the day!

www.prescottbikefestival.co.ukhas just been launched to provide more details on what will be in store and give the opportunity to purchase advance tickets and secure your place to Run the Hill. There are just 200 entry places to Run the Hill, so itÕs best to book early!

Prescott Bike Festival will take place on Sunday 15th April 2012 and all proceeds from the day will go to the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes and Severn Freewheelers.

Notes to Editors:

The Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes is the umbrella organisation representing 12 regional blood bike charities, all providing a motorcycle based, free delivery service to the NHS; moving vital medical supplies, blood and pathology samples from medical centres and hospitals throughout the UK. Recently NABB member groups have become involved in the transport of frozen human milk from the donor to the milk processing hospitals. This has been a real life saver due to the necessity of very premature babies intolerance to anything but human milk.

Run entirely by volunteers, NABB member groups have over 700 active members with a fleet of 35+ emergency response motorcycles. All NABB riders have an Advanced Riding qualification, are trained in the movement of medical essentials and operate from individual regional charities, but with a common goal, to alleviate suffering and reduce the funding pressures on the NHS.

NABB was formed in 2010 and is chaired by Gloucestershire man, Gordon Downie.

Severn Freewheelers are the regional Blood Bike group operating in Gloucestershire, Hereford & Worcester and North Wiltshire. Over 70 volunteers help Severn Freewheelers carry out their much needed service. Severn Freewheelers run 4 x BMW R1200RTs and a Honda Deauville, all emergency response equipped and handle some 3000 call outs per annum.

Tamdown Snetterton Stages Rally

Wickford Auto Club & Green Belt Motor Club Tamdown Snetterton Stages with Rix Engineering.
20 November 2011

Firstly we would like to thank our sponsors Pete Rayner for the sup-port from Tamdown and Ian and Claire Rix at Rix Engineering, without whose support the event would not be possible.

This will be the first rally to be held at Snetterton since 2003; since then, the circuit has new owners and has gone through a complete renovation programme including a new 3-mile circuit layout and elevated spectator viewing areas. We believe this will be an extremely popular event with a maximum of 80 competitors competing over 8 stages with an estimated mileage of in excess of 65 miles.

All stages will be in the confines of the race circuit therefore utilising only very smooth asphalt surface, limiting tyre wear and keeping tyre costs down. Therefore the event should be £s per mile very competitive.

FIA WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP

Monte Carlo Rally organisers have announced the longest route in the event`s recent history for its return to the World Rally Championship next season.

The January event will include 270 competitive miles, 60 more than this year`s Intercontinental Rally Challenge qualifier and the most the Automobile Club de Monaco has planned since 1995.

The outline route itself will remain similar to the format from previous years, starting from Valence and finishing in Monaco. As expected, there will be a powerstage on the Sunday morning, meaning the event won`t end at midnight in the mountains as it has for the last three years.

Shakedown for the event will be held on Tuesday 17 January, followed by an opening loop of stages (Le Moulinon-Antraigues and Burzet-St Martial run twice) in the southern Ardeche the next day.

Day two, Thursday 19 January, remains rooted in Valence, with the crews contesting three stages: Labatie d`Andaure-Lalouvesc; St Bonnet le Froid-St Julien Molhesabate-St Bonnet le Froid and Lamastre-Gilhoc-Alboussiere twice.

Two stages run on Friday morning, St Jean en Royans-Font d`Urle and Cimetiere de Vassieux-Col de Gaudissart before the teams move south to Monaco on Friday afternoon, taking in the Montauban sur Ouveze-Eygalayes stage in the Drome region on the way.

After an evening arrival in the Principality, the crews have Saturday morning off, before heading off for two loops of Moulinet-Col du Turini-La Bollene-Vesubie and Lantosque-Luceram.

Sunday morning`s three-mile live television powerstage runs at 10am from Sainte Agnes to Col de la Madone.

In total, the event comprises 17 stages and 1043 miles in total. This will be the first time the Monte Carlo Rally has been included in the WRC since 2008.

Burlap To Cashmere

This event is 21 and over
Burlap To Cashmere

Burlap to Cashmere are back.

The folk-rock band that played alongside the '90s' biggest acts, rocked an audience of 3 million (that included the Pope!), and made the whole world rethink what soul-searching music sounds like bowed out in 2001 after years of nonstop touring took their toll. But a decade after their split, the group's core trio — singer/guitarist Steven Delopoulos, guitarist John Philippidis, and drummer Theodore Pagano — have reunited, returning with a beautiful, stripped-down new sound. "We still have the energy, the focus, the drive," says Delopoulos. But as Philippidis explains, their musical tastes have matured: "We went from being beer drinkers to red wine drinkers."

Native New Yorkers Delopoulos and his cousin Philippidis have been playing music together their entire lives, and Burlap to Cashmere were born out of a theater project Delopoulos performed in college. Pagano joined the group shortly after the cousins began gigging in coffee houses in the mid-'90s, and Burlap to Cashmere started to do what they did best — electrify live audiences. The band grew to a seven-piece ensemble and released a live EP, then an album called Anybody Out There on A&M that showcased their unique blend of classic acoustic music, rollicking Greek rhythms, and flourishes of flamenco guitar.

When the record label changed hands, Burlap to Cashmere were nearly a casualty of industry politics. The band kept playing to rapturous audiences, but after six years at the top of their game, they called it quits out of exhaustion. Delopoulos recorded two solo albums and Philippidis carried on with session work, while Pagano worked as an interior designer (he's the guy who made sure Ikea showrooms and Apple stores look so appealing). All three thought about getting the band back together, but it took a traumatic event — Philippidis survived a near-fatal car accident and doctors had to reconstruct his entire face — to kick-start the reunion.

When the cousins played Pagano some of their newer tunes, he was blown away: "It was Burlap again, but without all the '90s grandeur," he says. Jive Records agreed, giving the band a rare second shot. Earlier this year, the trio hit the studio in California with producer Mitchell Froom (Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney, Sheryl Crow) with a few simple rules: "There would be no nudging, no Auto-Tuning, we're going into this for everything that's organic about the band," Philippidis says. The result, the eleven-track self-titled album, will be released on Jive and Provident Records.

"When I got out of the hospital, Steven and I just accidentally stumbled into the song ‘Orchestrated Love Song,’” Philippidis says."It's really circusy, old-school, what we used to do in the band," Delopoulos explains. But under the watchful eye of Froom, Burlap to Cashmere learned restraint. "Mitchell's idea was to approach it in an orchestral way, so we're not playing a drum beat that sounds like Rush. It keeps the drama and strips back the dense instrumentation," says Pagano. The song still boasts rapidly changing time signatures that baffle even the most seasoned session player. But Burlap to Cashmere's ability to make the difficult sound simple has always been part of their magic.

"Divinity shines through dark places," Delopoulos says. "Glancing at that divinity, to me is romantic." "Tonight" — the oldest song on the disc — dates back 10 years. The joyous "Santorini" will transport you to the streets of Greece as Delopoulos sings about the pleasures of his homeland.

The centerpiece of the record is the gorgeous, Simon & Garfunkel-esque "Love Reclaims the Atmosphere." "It's about a dying patient," Delopoulos explains. "I feel like we have an idea of what it's like to die, and we talk about peace and divinity and bliss, but what about the person actually going through that process? In darkness, there's light, and I think a lot of these songs go to those dark places so there can be an eruption of light." It's a heavy topic, but on record, Burlap to Cashmere handle it with a delicate beauty, recalling their primary influences: Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Van Morrison. In the years between Burlap records, Philippidis became especially infatuated with Paul Simon's One Trick Pony.

"Steven sang this whole record, live," Philippidis says. "There was not room for error. He had to get it or we threw the whole take away." It's that incredible musical skill and the band's gift for mind-blowing live shows that promise to deliver Burlap to Cashmere back to their fans — and introduce them to a ton of new ones.
