I played with these little tin cars as a boy many years ago. I have kept them on a shelf for years.I retreaded the photo for Monday Challenge and Thursday Retread.

This will be the last year my daughter get’s to participate in the AWANA Pinewood Derby. She’s very picky and won’t go with just a basic "make it look like a race car" car. In the past we’ve done "pinewood scale" replicas of Ferrari’s, a Lamborghini Police car (complete with black-n-white paint job and working red and blue flashing light!) and a Solar Powered car (modeled after the large flat ones you see that the colleges race against each other). She’s won design awards for the later two. This year, she wanted to make a Hummer. Good thing–I’d also promised her I’d finally do working headlights which she’s wanted all along. The H2 style of body gave us room for the micro switch and AAA batteries. (And, yes, by a 10th of an ounce we are under the weight limit!)

It’s so fast it bends time… this is Einstein’s 4×4.
One shot from the lightpainting trip with Montoff this evening – after finding the abandoned car parks of North Tyneside to be a bit too bright (though quite lucrative), we headed off to the farm tracks of Northumberland (where we were quizzed to find out if we were fish poachers – I said no, I prefer them battered).
Still a small amount of light pollution, but we managed to capture some of Montoff’s work along with my flash on the car – it’s a decent starting point, but I think we realised we need to find somewhere really dark when the real deal comes down.
Still, the auld rust bucket looks kind of sci-fi, don’t she?
Strobist: 2x 430EXII at 1/8th:24mm on at front, one at side, each with a full cut CTO gel to get a bit closer to that pervasive orange. No modifiers. Warp!

The driver of this car experienced some engine trouble while driving down the freeway, so he got off the freeway. Shortly after exiting, the engine caught on fire. Pasadena Fire Department Engine 39 responded and extiguished the flames.
